President Donald Trump announced that the tariffs he had threatened to impose on February 1, in connection with a Greenland dispute, have been cancelled. “After a very productive meeting with NATO Secretary‑General Mark Rutte, we have laid the groundwork for a future agreement concerning Greenland and the entire Arctic” Trump wrote on Wednesday evening on his platform, Truth Social.
He added, “If this solution comes to fruition, it will be a great win for the United States of America and all NATO member states”. Because of this arrangement, the tariffs that were scheduled for February 1 will not be collected.
Further negotiations about the planned missile‑defense system, “Golden Dome” as it relates to Greenland will still take place. These talks will be led-“as needed”-by Vice‑President JD Vance, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and other officials.
