Tricia Tuttle, an American, will continue as the artistic director of the Berlinale for the time being, according to several media outlets citing a spokesperson for Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer.
On Thursday morning, the previously announced supervisory‑board meeting of KBB GmbH was held in the Chancellery. The discussions will carry on in the coming days between Tuttle and the board to determine the festival’s future direction. Weimer convened the meeting to clarify the “future orientation of the Berlinale”.
Earlier, “Bild” reported that Weimer might consider recalling Tuttle. The controversy surrounding the festival stems from recent antisemitic incidents, notably a speech by Syrian‑Palestinian director Abdallah Alkhatib during the awards ceremony that sparked much outrage. After news of a possible dismissal emerged, many filmmakers and Berlinale staff rallied in support of Tuttle.
