Transport Minister Rejects Nine‑Euro Ticket Return Amid Rising Fuel Prices

Despite rising fuel prices, Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) has rejected calls to bring back the nine‑Euro‑Ticket.
In a statement to the Funke‑Media Group newspapers, he said the Deutschlandticket stays far cheaper than regular monthly passes-at €63 per month-and can be used nationwide. Financing is secured until 2030, and he urges many parts of Germany to switch to the Deutschlandticket, especially under the current economic climate.

Schnieder also declined Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil’s (SPD) proposal to impose Luxembourg‑style fuel‑price caps. He pointed out that Luxembourg has uniform prices and that such a cap would represent a strong market intervention that hampers competition; it should only be considered in an absolute emergency.

On the issue of a speed limit on autobahns, Schnieder said no. “People who drive responsibly feel the impact in their wallets, and they notice the difference even without a speed limit” he added.
