Tour Tourism Committee Chair Cautiously Advises Caution On Long Distance Travel Amid Energy Concerns

Amid ongoing energy crises, Anja Karliczek, the Chairwoman of the Bundestag Tourism Committee, has raised concerns regarding the risks associated with international travel. While she informed the “Rheinische Post” that the supply of kerosene for booked flights within Germany is currently secured, she cautioned that situations vary greatly across the globe. Consequently, she warned that travelers may face genuine risks either when trying to reach their destination or when attempting to return home.

Karliczek stressed the high degree of uncertainty surrounding long-distance travel to areas like Asia and the Middle East, advising that everyone must independently monitor the developing situation. Nevertheless, she pointed out that the current global instability presents an opportunity for Germany, arguing that the nation can offer safe travel-a valuable asset for German tourism amid an unpredictable world.

When specifically asked whether tourists should forgo trips to destinations like Mallorca and remain in Germany instead, Karliczek responded that she would not suggest such an option. She noted that countries like Spain and Portugal are already benefiting from the heightened demand, as travelers are electing to redirect their long-distance journeys toward more localized European destinations.
