On Wednesday the Thuringian State Chancellery announced that State Minister‑President Mario Voigt (CDU) will bring a lawsuit against the Technical University of Chemnitz for revoking his doctoral degree. Voigt said he will file the claim with the administrative court, arguing that the university’s decision is incomprehensible. He cites an external report commissioned by the university itself in February 2025, which concluded that his dissertation was an independent scientific contribution and that none of the conditions for stripping the title were met. Voigt accuses the university of introducing new evaluation criteria after the report and applying those standards specifically to his thesis. The disputed sections comprise 2.58 % of the words in the thesis submitted almost twenty years ago. Voigt’s legal team, Raue, has alleged procedural errors on the university’s part, including a change of evaluation rules during the ongoing proceedings and a failure to hear Voigt and the original reviewers. Voigt maintains that he will continue to focus on his role as head of government regardless of the court case.
