In the final minute, Chema Andres curled a counter‑attack into the net, turning the tie into a 3‑2 win for Stuttgart.
The Lille match was decided late. A foul by Cyriaque Irie inside the penalty area earned a spot‑kick, which Olivier Giroud converted at the 2nd minute of added time to give Lille a 1‑0 win and seal Freiburg’s defeat.
Freiburg’s loss means they will progress to the next round, while Stuttgart has earned a spot in the playoffs.
