Strike at Berlin Brandenburg Airport Halts All Passenger Flights

On Wednesday morning a warning strike announced by the service union Verdi began at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). As a result of the work stoppages, no regular passenger flights will operate all day. The airport company has urged passengers to contact their airlines or travel agents for rebooking and alternative travel arrangements.

Verdi accuses the employer of blocking ongoing wage negotiations. In the second bargaining round the managers presented an offer that the wage commission deemed non‑negotiable. The next negotiation round is scheduled for March 25.

The employers’ proposal in that round outlined wage increases in stages through to the end of 2028: no increase until June, a 1 % rise from July 2026, 1.5 % from July 2027 and an additional 1 % from May 2028. Negotiation leader Holger Rößler described the offer as a provocation at the bargaining table.
