SPD Vice Chair Demands Relief Package From Coalition Leaders On Fuel Prices

Just before the coalition committee was scheduled to release its negotiation results, Deputy SPD parliamentary group chair Esra Limbacher demanded a relief package aimed at mitigating the high cost of fuel. Speaking to RTL and ntv, Limbacher stated that what is needed are tangible decisions from the government and the coalition, rather than mere reassurances. He acknowledged that while relief measures might be announced, they would arrive too late, suggesting that actions should have been taken more quickly at certain points; for instance, changes to antitrust or competition law were apparently insufficient. Despite the overall criticism, Limbacher commended the efforts of SPD leader and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, asserting that it was correct for Klingbeil to advocate for short-term relief measures. He underlined the necessity of these actions, given that many people in rural communities are highly dependent on cars and are currently facing significant financial strain.
