The SPD-led states are strongly asserting their priorities regarding the driving education reform proposed by the federal cabinet, placing paramount importance on safety. Petra Berg, the Saarland Traffic Minister, told the “Rheinische Post” that it is crucial for the SPD states that there can be absolutely no compromises concerning road safety.
Consequently, she insisted that the preparatory education must be closely and professionally overseen. Furthermore, she emphasized that maintaining affordability for a driver’s license is essential. According to her, any resulting cost reduction should directly benefit the driving schools.
Despite these conditions, the SPD states explicitly welcomed the planned measures within the reform package aimed at digitalization and reducing bureaucracy.
