SPD Politician Bettina Hagedorn Named New State Secretary in Federal Environment Ministry

Bettina Hagedorn, a Member of Parliament from Kiel and a member of the SPD party, has been appointed as the new Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for the Environment. This information was conveyed to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” by a ministry spokesperson on Friday. Hagedorn will take over this role following Carsten Träger, who passed away unexpectedly just over a month ago.

Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider (SPD) explained his choice, stating that “Bettina Hagedorn is a highly experienced, competent, and passionate politician”. He noted that Hagedorn will bring valuable expertise to the ministry’s leadership team, particularly in budget policy and from her previous time serving as a Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance. Schneider added, “I am particularly pleased that she comes from the Baltic Sea region, as the protection of the marine environment is a personal concern for me”. Together, they plan to advocate for the safeguarding of this valuable natural area.

Hagedorn, who is a trained goldsmith, has been a Bundestag representative for East Holstein and North Stormarn since 2002. Additionally, she serves on the supervisory board of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

TheSPD representative and Parliamentary State Secretary, Träger, died a few weeks ago at the age of 52. His party announced that he collapsed during a ski vacation in Innsbruck.
