The SPD has called on mineral oil corporations to immediately lower petrol prices following the announcement of the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. According to Fraktionsvize Esra Limbacher speaking to the “Rheinische Post” on Thursday, she stated, “Oil prices dropped by double digits just before Wednesday morning. This must now be quickly reflected in the prices at the gas pump”.
Limbacher added that German drivers have been heavily burdened by the excessive price increases compared to other European countries. She expressed her expectation that the companies should pass on the rapidly falling global crude oil market prices just as quickly as they passed on the increases.
Furthermore, she argued that the existing state measures have proven insufficient to curb prices. “It is therefore correct that we must cap petrol prices and tax windfall profits. The Minister of Economic Affairs must finally take action” Limbacher concluded.
