SPD Backing Dobrindt's Plan to Fast-Track Asylum Seekers Into Jobs

The SPD backs Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt’s plan to place asylum seekers in work more quickly. “Work is a decisive factor for successful integration, especially to learn German fast” said SPD parliamentary chief Dirk Wiese to the “Rheinische Post” (Monday edition).

He added, “Given the demographic trend we urgently need workers for the economy, so it is good that Minister Dobrindt is now implementing the coalition agreement”.

Dobrindt has devised an “Immediate‑to‑Work” plan, as published by “Bild am Sonntag”. The proposal would allow asylum seekers to begin working after only three months of residence in Germany, even if their asylum case is still pending. The plan contains no compulsory work requirement, the ministry said. A spokesperson for the minister emphasized that the new rules do not change the process or outcome of asylum procedures.
