Just under two months after the SPD‑BLG coalition in Brandenburg dissolved, the Social Democrats and the CDU presented a coalition agreement for a new partnership. The document, titled “Responsibility for Brandenburg” calls for significant savings for citizens and stresses the need for a comprehensive measures package to improve the state’s financial situation structurally. It insists that any additional spending must be matched by corresponding cuts, particularly on long‑term expenditure obligations. The core functions of the state and its administration-police, justice, education, and finance-are to receive priority.
The coalition’s guiding principle is to “review programmes, eliminate duplicate structures, simplify procedures, and focus the state on essentials”. It also aims to strengthen the rule of law, promote unity rather than division, and deliver stability, security, and reliability. The parties pledge to act when necessary without postponing the right actions.
Regarding ministerial distribution, the SPD will hold six ministries and the CDU three. The SPD ministries, in addition to the Minister President’s post, include the State Chancellery, Finance, Justice and Digitalisation, Science, Research and Culture, Labour, Social Affairs, Health and Social Cohesion, Agriculture and Food Economy, Environment and Consumer Protection, and Infrastructure and Regional Planning. The CDU ministries are the Interior and Municipal Affairs, Education, Youth and Sports, and Economy, Energy, Climate Protection and Europe.
