Jens Spahn, chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, highlighted the special significance of the CDU federal convention that began on Friday morning. “It’s the first chancellor party conference in five years – that in itself is noteworthy” he told the “Bild”. Pointing to the conference’s main resolution on housing, Spahn added, “The CDU stands for a country where effort pays off. Those who step up should be able to build something for themselves”.

He said the focus starts with homeownership. “Owning four walls must also be attainable for salespeople, journeymen, and caregivers” he explained. With this approach, Spahn said, the party is beginning the convention and renewing the promise of upward mobility that has shaped our nation.
