Spahn Names Plum New Lawmaker Spokesperson for Bundestag Faction

According to reports citing sources within the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Jens Spahn, who is the chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, has reportedly nominated Martin Plum to serve as the group’s new Justice Advisor. Spahn informed the parliamentary executive board of the Union on Monday afternoon. The CDU portion of the executive board is scheduled to vote on re-election on Tuesday, as Spahn intends to run for the role of group chairman once again.

The position of Justice Advisor is currently vacant following the departure of Ansgar Heveling. Heveling is slated to be elected by the Bundestag in May to the position of President of the Federal Court of Accounts, appointing him as Germany’s highest financial controller. There were two leading candidates for Heveling’s succession: Roland Theis from Saarland, and Martin Plum from North Rhine-Westphalia. Spahn has put forward Plum, a jurist who has been a direct candidate for the Bundestag since 2021, for the role.
