Söder Pushes Quick Implementation of Military Draft in Germany

Bavaria’s Minister-President and CSU leader, Markus Söder, is strongly advocating for the rapid introduction of mandatory military service in Germany. According to the “Bild” newspaper, Söder stated that heightened national security is the fundamental prerequisite for freedom, concluding that conscription must be implemented as quickly as possible. He emphasized that achieving Germany’s goal of having the largest army in Europe necessitates mandatory service, declaring that there is “no way around conscription”. In his view, national security cannot be attained solely through voluntary enlistment.

Furthermore, the Minister-President directed his appeal to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD), stressing the need for greater focus and support for Germany’s reservists. He demanded the creation of a coherent concept that provides full equipment and resources for those in the reserves.
