Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the Chancellery on Tuesday, where he was greeted with an embrace by Federal Minister Friedrich Merz (CDU) for government consultations. This marks the first German-Ukrainian government consultative meeting since 2004. The visit had been officially announced just hours before.
During Zelenskyy’s visit, which was accompanied by several ministers, there are plans to jointly examine drones produced through German-Ukrainian cooperation and to sign one or more declarations of intent. The day is scheduled to conclude with a plenary session following a working lunch. No further details were provided beforehand.
The meeting was not publicized for security reasons, and the Federal Chancellery was extensively cordoned off by police officers on Tuesday morning.
