The Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt, Sven Schulze (CDU), has announced the intention to introduce a Bundesrat initiative aimed at providing tax relief for single parents. Schulze stated that the focus on only the “mother-father-child” model, as promoted by the AFD party, is outdated. He stressed that single parents, who include both women and men, make enormous contributions to society.
He highlighted the difficulties faced by those without a partner, who must manage professional careers while simultaneously handling things like school parent-teacher meetings and medical appointments, all while providing childcare. Schulze argues that this immense effort deserves recognition and should be supported through tax measures.
According to Schulze, the ultimate goal of such an initiative would be to ensure that single parents receive greater financial support overall. He intends to advance this through a formal proposal to the Bundesrat, emphasizing that providing tax relief for single parents would be a strongly significant measure, not just for single mothers and fathers within Saxony-Anhalt, but for all single parents across the state.
