After the 22nd matchday of the 2. Bundesliga, FC Schalke 04 won 2 - 1 at Holstein Kiel, reclaiming the league’s top spot.
Schalke took the lead in the 16th minute when Kenan Karaman flicked a corner from Adil Aouchiche over the line. In the 29th minute Hasan Kurucay doubled the advantage with a header after Dzeko’s first‑post miss.
Kiel fought back in the second half, pulling one goal back with a free‑kick by David Zec in the 55th minute. The hosts then pressed harder, but Schalke’s defence was tight, limiting the opposition’s chances. By the final whistle the visitors were flat, and Schalke secured the three points.
The victory puts Schalke back at the top of the table, one point clear of second place, while Kiel drops to 14th. The Storks will meet KSC again on Saturday, and Schalke will face Magdeburg on the same day. The parallel fixtures on Sunday afternoon finished with VfL Bochum 0-0 SC Paderborn and 1. FC Magdeburg 0-2 Arminia Bielefeld.
