An unmanned aerial vehicle coming from Russian airspace struck an Estonian power plant early Wednesday morning, the Estonian Internal Security Service (ISS) reported. The collision was detected on the smokestack of the Auvere power station in the east of the country, and the national electricity grid was not affected.
The General Prosecutor’s Office added that, “currently, the drone was not aimed at Estonia” and that initial measures were being taken while the investigation seeks to determine the precise circumstances. Justice Minister Liisa‑Ly Pakosta announced that a special session would be convened to address the incident.
The event occurred amid reports that Ukraine had carried out drone attacks on the Russian port of Ust‑Luga in the Leningrad region overnight. The Ust‑Luga port lies just under 50 km from the Auvere plant, and the Russian border is less than three kilometers away. It was initially unclear whether the drone was Ukrainian or Russian.
