Green Party politician Ricarda Lang sharply criticised Economy Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) for her handling of the energy supply amid the Iran crisis. In an interview with Welt TV, Lang said Reiche places the profits of the gas lobby above affordable energy prices for consumers.
Lang added that, even as Wirtschaftswissenschaftlerin‑in the cabinet, Reiche is encouraging a deeper reliance on fossil fuels. “Those who import gas or oil from other countries are not importing energy, they are importing uncertainty” Lang warned.
She called on the federal government to find ways to shield citizens from price shocks. The measures, she argued, should have a dual purpose: first, providing immediate support; and second, preventing future price spirals. Lang emphasized that achieving this can only happen by moving away from fossil fuels.
