Before the CDU federal party congress, Hessian Minister‑President Boris Rhein asked for a premature implementation of the planned corporate‑tax cut. “If it is financially possible, the reduction of the corporate tax scheduled for early 2028 should be advanced by a year” he told the news magazine “Focus”.
He also insisted that an electricity‑tax cut for everyone must follow, and that a reduction of income tax for low‑ and middle‑income earners should be pursued as swiftly as possible.
When asked about reforming the inheritance tax, his answer was a firm rejection. “We absolutely do not need an increase in inheritance tax. I understand that the SPD is pulling this old policy off the shelf with five state elections in a year” he said. “But in a severe economic crisis, this is the wrong signal”.
Rhein further noted, “We do not have a problem with lazy heirs who acquire wealth without effort. Instead, the SPD’s plans would hit many family businesses that would have to sell their companies to pay the inheritance tax-or simply shut down”.
