Left faction leader Heidi Reichinnek defended the use of concise, pointed arguments as a tool for political engagement, even on social media. In an interview with “Spiegel”, she explained how her faction distinguishes itself from right‑wing populists: the content behind the words matters. “We work with facts and can prove everything we say” she said. “Our criticism can be sharp, but we don’t insult anyone or talk down to people”.
Reichinnek also noted that most people are not thinking about politics all the time. “I have to figure out how to reach them with my ideas” she explained. “So I distill what I see as a problem to a few words and likewise offer my proposed solution in a brief, clear statement”. She added that it is important to remind citizens that complex issues cannot be fixed with a simple gesture. “Problems such as affordable housing didn’t arise overnight, and they are rarely solved overnight” she said.
Regarding incidents of interjections in her parliamentary group, Reichinnek defended the use of order‑calling moments in the Bundestag. “Why do we raise the question of order?” she asked. “One of our members called the word ‘lie’ out of the blue because it was indeed a lie being made from the podium”. She continued, “Sometimes we have to call a Nazi a Nazi, even in the Bundestag, especially when they spread hateful, dehumanising rhetoric”.
