Economy Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) made it clear that state funding for heat pumps will not be abandoned after 2029. “The year 2029 only marks the end of the current financial framework” she said to the newspapers of the Funke Media Group in a Sunday issue, noting that this does not mean the cessation of subsidies.
Reiche highlighted that heat pumps are already the dominant choice in new builds and will often remain the preferred option in existing properties, though she cautioned that they are not the sole solution. “It is not the role of politics to tell people what is good or bad-this falls under the personal responsibility of citizens”.
She added that the government has unequivocally stated it will continue to strongly support all climate‑neutral heating systems, which she said is good news for investors, and that sales of heat pumps will keep rising. Reiche dismissed legal concerns about the new heating law, affirming that the building modernization law will be “legal‑soundly designed”.
