RB Leipzig have secured the services of 23‑year‑old midfielder Rocco Reitz from Borussia Mönchengladbach, signing him for the upcoming season on a contract that runs until 2031. Reitz has played 88 Bundesliga matches for Mönchengladbach, scoring eight goals and providing six assists.
Leipzig’s sports director Marcel Schäfer described Reitz as “the absolute desired player for the central midfield” and praised the “always transparent and fair negotiations with all parties”. He added that the club will acquire a versatile player who can act as a link between defence and attack, a central role that will strengthen the squad. According to Schäfer, Reitz is among the league’s top performers in metrics such as sprints, intense runs, distance covered and speed. He also offers good vision, control, the right mentality and leadership qualities for a player of his age, with further development potential.
Borussia’s sports chief Rouven Schröder noted that the transfer fee received will be the highest ever generated by the club for a home‑grown player. He said the early agreement will assist the club’s planning, and that Reitz will do everything in his power to achieve the shared objectives, reflecting his character and track record.
Reitz began his career in Borussia’s youth development centre, progressing through every junior team. He made his Bundesliga debut in October 2020. After stints on loan at Belgian side VV St. Truiden, he became a first‑team regular in the 2023/24 season and regularly wore the vice‑captain’s armband.
In the current campaign, the energetic midfielder has appeared in 24 of 26 possible league games. With a top speed of 35.63 km/h, he is among the fastest players in the Bundesliga. Until last summer he was a key member of the German U21 national team, helping the squad win the runners‑up spot at the European Championship.
