Rail Workers Acquitted in Garmisch-Partenkirchen Train Crash Case

The disaster occurred three and a half years ago in Burgrain near Garmisch‑Partenkirchen when a train derailed because of deteriorated track. Five people died and more than 70 were injured. Prosecutors argued that the accused could have averted the accident, but the court did not accept that view. They accused the district manager of delaying maintenance work, while the dispatcher was blamed only for a “momentary lapse” in forwarding a warning from a locomotive driver.
