Rail Union Demands Deep Ticket Discounts to Offset Fuel Price Crisis

The railway union EVG is demanding that the government implement a price reduction for train tickets amid the current fuel price crisis. Union boss Martin Burkert stated to “Bild am Sonntag” that instead of being manipulated by oil corporations, politicians must utilize the state-owned company Deutsche Bahn, alongside an emergency windfall tax. The union argues that temporary discounts of 30 percent on the Deutschlandticket, along with reductions of up to 50 percent on long-distance travel fares, would offer both quick and effective relief.
