Ukraine is likely to receive a European package of Patriot air‑defence missiles in the coming weeks.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has reportedly secured roughly 30 of the latest PAC‑3 interceptors from several European partners. In addition, a handful of the scarce PAC‑3 missiles held in German Bundeswehr stock should soon join the shipment, bringing the total to about 35 missiles destined for Ukraine.
The German Ministry of Defence confirmed the planned delivery of this new package in response to a request from “Spiegel”. Officials said they convinced European partners to contribute additional PAC‑3s, bringing the total close to the targeted number. For security reasons the spokesperson did not disclose the exact size of the package or its delivery timetable.
Earlier, at a gathering of Ukraine‑supporting countries before the Munich Security Conference, Pistorius proposed that Germany provide five PAC‑3s from its own stock if other states together delivered 30 more missiles. Several countries-including the Netherlands-had already offered non‑binding pledges at the time. Those commitments have now been confirmed, allowing the shipment to proceed.
Stockpiles of Patriot missiles have been stretched thin by the high consumption needed to counter Iranian attacks on U.S. bases in the Middle East. Experts estimate that Ukraine requires around 60 Patriot missiles per month to maintain its air‑defence capabilities.
