Paris Municipal Elections Socialist Wins Over Rachida Dati in Second Round

In Paris, the municipal elections on Sunday saw Emmanuel Grégoire of the Socialist Party decisively defeat Rachida Dati of the Republicans. The city voted in a second round, and Grégoire carried the seat for the left with a clear majority.

In Lyon, Grégory Doucet of the Greens and the Left secured victory. However, the right‑wing candidate, Jean‑Michel Aulas, announced an objection to the result, citing irregularities.

Marseille remained under left control, with Benoît Payan emerging as the winner. In Nîmes, the election swung to the left when Vincent Bouget’s list surpassed that of the National Rally. Toulouse stayed in the hands of the right; Jean‑Luc Moudenc was re‑elected with backing from far‑right elements.

Other notable results include the repeat election of the centre‑right liberal Edouard Philippe in Le Havre. In Brest, long‑time Socialist mayor François Cuillandre was succeeded by Stéphane Roudaut, an independent candidate fielded by the right. Left and Socialist candidates also captured key victories in cities such as Montpellier, Lille, Pau, and Amiens, while the right took advantage in places like Besançon.
