Following the first round of municipal elections in France, Paris’s socialist candidate Emmanuel Grégoire leads with roughly 37 % of the vote. In the second round a week later, he will face Rachida Dati of the Republicans, who polled about 25 %. Also qualifying for the runoff are Sophia Chikirou of the left‑populist LFI and Pierre‑Yves Bournazel of the centre‑right Horizons party; both surpassed the 10 % threshold.
The far‑right Rassemblement National celebrated on Sunday the re‑election of several of its mayors in the first round. President Emmanuel Macron’s party, Renewal, marked about 100 mayors who won outright, avoiding a second‑round contest by securing an absolute majority.
In contrast, many green mayors elected during the 2020 “green wave” across seven metropolitan areas now face significant pressure. In Strasbourg, for instance, Jeanne Barseghian finished a distant third behind former socialist mayor Catherine Trautmann and Republican Jean‑Philippe Vetter.
Marseille’s race was a tight contest between incumbent mayor Benoît Payan and RN candidate Franck Allisio, while Lyons saw former Olympique Lyonnais chief Jean‑Michel Aulas and mayor Grégory Doucet finish level on the ballot.
