Özdemir Says Election Boost Encouragement for Migrant Children

Cem Özdemir (Greens), the designated Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, viewed the upcoming writ on Wednesday as a significant source of encouragement for children from immigrant backgrounds and those raised in working-class households. Speaking to Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Özdemir shared that the occasion reminded him of his parents, whom he imagined looking down from heaven, delighted that Baden-Württemberg offers a story like this to a child whose parents were guest workers. He expressed hope that this encouragement would benefit not only the children of immigrants but also those from working-class families.

Özdemir further emphasized that if individuals are dedicated and fortunate enough to have supportive people-such as good teachers, trainers, neighbors, and friends’ parents-the state provides vast opportunities. For this reason, he sees his own position as a motivational call for others to pursue their path and realize their dream in Baden-Württemberg. He noted that his own father worked in a textile factory and his mother operated a tailor’s shop.

The achievement was recognized by Gökay Sofuoglu, chairman of the Turkish community in Germany. Sofuoglu told RND that Özdemir becoming the Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg is a profound “success story” regardless of his specific political affiliations. He stated that Özdemir serves as a vital political role model for youth belonging to the immigrant community.
