Oil Industry Association Warns German Coalition Of Fuel Market Interventions Threatening Supply Security

The Association of the Mineral Oil Industry has warned the black‑red coalition sharply about planned interventions in the fuel market.

Christian Küchen, chief executive of the Federation of Fuels and Energy, told ntv that such political measures could, “at worst” create shortages in Germany. He said that the measures planned by the Union and SPD to give the government stronger control over petrol and diesel prices were harmful.

Particularly problematic, Küchen pointed out, is the burden‑of‑proof reversal for price increases. The bill would be framed as a “ban” without clearly defining when prices are deemed “reasonable” cost calculations. This uncertainty, he warned, could ultimately jeopardise supply security in Germany.

Küchen urged the government to stick to facts, adding that the entire package from the federal cabinet “rests on suppositions, accusations, and emotions”.
