The governments of Bremen, Lower Saxony and Schleswig‑Holstein have endorsed Hamburg’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. On Thursday the chief ministers of the four North German states – Andreas Bovenschulte (Bremen, SPD), Olaf Lies (Lower Saxony, SPD), Daniel Günther (Schleswig‑Holstein, CDU) and Peter Tschentscher (Hamburg, SPD) – issued a joint statement. They described the potential hosting as a “century‑chance” for the entire region and highlighted the enthusiasm for sport as well as the prospects for growth in economy, infrastructure and cross‑border cooperation. “Hamburg’s bid concept is built on sustainability, social cohesion and the continued use of existing sporting venues” the ministers said, emphasising their readiness and willingness to work closely together. Additional support came from the regional business community. A resolution adopted by the thirteen chambers of commerce and industry in the IHK Nord, representing five North German states, clearly backed the bid.
