German egg trade data for 2025 show that the Netherlands remains by far the dominant supplier of fresh chicken eggs to Germany. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 3.7 billion eggs-68.7 % of all imports-originated from the Netherlands, while Poland supplied 861 million eggs (15.9 %) and Belgium 190 million eggs (3.5 %).
In total, Germany imported 5.4 billion eggs in 2025. That compares with 1.2 billion eggs exported and 13.7 billion eggs produced domestically. The overall import volume fell by 3.8 % compared with the previous year, when 5.6 billion eggs had entered the market.
Over the past decade the import volume has declined by 20.9 % (from 6.9 billion eggs in 2015). Exports have also slipped, down 11.6 % from the previous year to 1.4 billion eggs, and 40.1 % below the 2.1 billion eggs exported in 2015. In contrast, domestic production has risen 16.4 % since 2015, reaching 13.7 billion eggs.
Per‑capita egg consumption in Germany increased as well. Preliminary figures from the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE) indicate an average of 252 eggs per person in 2025-four eggs more than the year before and up from 228 eggs per person in 2015.
