Nearly 980 Knife Crimes and 2200 Sexual Offenses Hit German Train Stations and Trains in 2025

Train stations once again dominated the 2025 crime picture. According to fresh Bundespolizei figures reported by “Bild am Sonntag”, Leipzig Hauptbahnhof recorded 859 violent offences, making it the most troubled site. Dortmund Hauptbahnhof follows with 735 cases, while Berlin’s main station accounts for 654. Other major stations-Cologne (648), Hannover (612), Hamburg (580), Munich (553), Nuremberg (528), Frankfurt/Main (520) and Düsseldorf (499)-also feature prominently on the list.

The perceived threat to police forces has risen sharply. In the previous year, 5,660 violent offences were logged against Federal Police officers operating in the rail sector, surpassing the already high 5,500 figure from the year before. These incidents included more than 980 knife attacks and roughly 2,200 sexual offences committed aboard trains or at stations.

The data further reveal a significant discrepancy in perpetrator origin. Non‑German suspects are reported to be five times more likely than German nationals to be involved in general violent crimes, six times more likely in knife attacks, and eight times more likely in sexual offences, when weighted against their proportion of the total population.

The Bundespolizei has rejected calls to reallocate personnel away from border posts to address these station‑related incidents. “No staff will be removed from border areas” a spokesperson told “Bild am Sonntag”. The agency argues that pulling resources from the borders could encourage illegal immigration and exacerbate the overall security situation.
