NATO spokesman Martin O’Donnell said that member states had heightened their missile‑defense readiness at all alliance posts. The step was taken on Wednesday, after a ballistic missile launched from Iran that was headed for Turkey had been intercepted.
The immediate action was initiated by the commander of NATO’s Air Force Command, who also recommended keeping the elevated readiness in place until the threat from Iran’s ongoing indiscriminate attacks in the region subsides.
The Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACE) agreed with this recommendation. The issue was discussed in a NATO Secretary‑General meeting today, and all allied parties voted unanimously to keep the posture unchanged. O’Donnell declined to provide further details of the specific measures, citing “operational security” reasons.
