Munich Police Celebrate Positive Outcomes From 62nd Security Conference

Police in Munich reported a positive summary of their operations during the 62nd Munich Security Conference (MSC). Between Thursday and Sunday, about 5,000 officers-including support units from across Germany and several European neighboring countries-were on duty, the Munich Police Headquarters announced on Sunday.

Seventeen meetings with a direct link to the MSC were monitored. Saturday proved to be the busiest day. At Theresienwiese a demonstration about political events in Iran drew up to 250,000 participants and proceeded largely peacefully. A separate assembly aimed at the MSC gathered around 2,000 people, about 250 of whom were from the autonomous spectrum, and experienced disruptions. Two officers were attacked by bystanders in front of Marienplatz; the suspects were apprehended.

More than 20 offences were reported in connection with the MSC, including violations of a flight‑restriction zone. During a traffic accident on the A9 near Allershausen on Saturday, six police vehicles were damaged and several officers sustained minor injuries. Over the course of the event, 23 officers suffered minor injuries, and a further 18 became ill. In established no‑stop zones, 59 vehicles were towed.
