Milk farmers urge Federal Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer (CSU) to oppose the falling price of milk and to push for greater price stability.
In an interview with the Bild Saturday edition, Karsten Schmal-vice‑president of the German Farmers’ Association (DBV) and DBV milk president-claimed that the risk‑equity reserve stipulated in the coalition agreement must be implemented immediately. “The minister has to act now and introduce robust crisis instruments” he said. “For us farmers it is unacceptable if our high‑quality milk ends up as trash”.
Schmal added that a tax‑free risk‑equity reserve should be introduced right away and that the sector also needs reliable forecasting models and support for price‑hedging schemes. “The entire supply chain must collaborate to secure domestic supply through responsible price setting” he stressed, noting that dairy farms face increasing economic pressure under the current price trends.
