The ceasefire agreement in the Near East, established between the United States and Iran, remains unstable. Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that all current US military assets will remain in the region. US vessels, aircraft, and military personnel, which include additional ammunition and weaponry, will stay stationed in the area until a “real agreement” is fully adhered to. Furthermore, Trump stated that the US military is preparing for its “next conquest” and resting to be ready for future deployments.
Meanwhile, Israel conducted large-scale attacks in Lebanon. According to Lebanese reports, more than 250 people were killed across the country, with over 90 fatalities reported in Beirut alone. In response, Hezbollah launched missiles at northern Israel during the night. Previously, there were conflicting statements regarding whether Lebanon was included in the temporary ceasefire; the US and Israel deny this, while Iran and Pakistan insist it is.
Tensions persist in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has reportedly resumed restricting shipping traffic in the strait, which was one of the main conditions demanded by the US for the ceasefire. It remains unclear when traffic can normalize. Peace talks are scheduled to take place in Islamabad starting Friday.
