German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) publicly addressed the Middle‑East crisis.
He stated that Germany aligns with the United States and Israel in opposing the Iranian nuclear and missile program, Tehran’s threat to Israel, and its support for terrorism. Merz added that the Iranian people have the right to determine their own fate.
He warned that a prolonged and widening conflict increases risks to Israel and its regional partners-particularly in the Gulf-while also undermining Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Merz emphasized that an endless war is not in Germany’s interest.
To halt hostilities, he said Germany is collaborating with its partners on a “shared outlook” that would establish a regional peace order, ensuring the security and survival of all states, including Israel and Gulf countries. He also demanded that Iran’s military nuclear program be rendered verifiably terminable and that Iran’s territorial integrity be respected.
