In a serious traffic accident on the A20 motorway, Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern’s Minister of Economics, Wolfgang Blank, was badly injured, the state ministry announced Thursday. Blank’s driver was also struck, and both were taken to nearby hospitals.
According to police reports, the collision occurred around 09:30 am on the left‑hand lane heading toward Lübeck, between the Bad Sülze and Tessin junctions. Blank was traveling in a BMW that was believed to be his official vehicle. While moving on the left lane, a traffic‑control van from the motorway authority attempted to shift from the shoulder onto the same lane to block a construction site. The two vehicles collided, causing the BMW to hit the median guardrail and overturn.
The driver of the control van, who was there to secure a work zone, sustained only minor injuries. Investigations into the exact cause of the accident were still underway.
