Masked Man Arrested With Knife on ICE Train from Cologne to Frankfurt

The German Federal Police arrested a masked man on an ICE train traveling from Cologne toward Frankfurt on Thursday evening. At about 21:00, the train-already running roughly 20 minutes late after arriving from Brussels-was unexpectedly pulled over at Siegburg bei Bonn station for a security check.

Earlier on the journey, passengers had reported that a man in carriage 23 had detonated something, producing strong smoke. Initially it was unclear whether a firecracker, a bomb, or a paintball grenade had been used. Two passengers sustained minor injuries.

When the train reached the station, the police searched for the masked individual. He had taken shelter in a toilet, brandishing a knife and threatening an attack. Officers managed to open the toilet, subdue him and handcuff him before removing him from the train.

After the arrest, the ICE was inspected for potential explosive devices. Consequently, the ICE 19 service to Frankfurt was cancelled for the evening.
