Following the Hungarian parliamentary election on Sunday evening, Péter Magyar delivered a victory speech. Addressing his supporters along the banks of the Danube, he proclaimed, “Hungary, we did it. The Tisza Party and the people of Hungary have won this election-not barely, but truly. Together, we have expelled the Orbán regime, freed our country, and reclaimed our homeland”.
Magyar emphasized the mandate given to him, stating that the legitimacy belongs to the 3.3 million people who voted. He concluded that “Hungary has written history”.
According to early projections from the national election office, the Tisza Party is set to achieve a two-thirds majority in parliament, a level that would grant them the power to amend the constitution, signaling the end of Orbán’s 16-year rule. At a vote count of 91.90 percent, Tisza is expected to secure 138 out of the 199 parliamentary seats. This represents a significant downturn for Fidesz, Orbán’s party, which had previously won 135 seats with its coalition partner KDNP and is now projected to fall to 54 deputies. Furthermore, Mi Hazánk Mozgalom is forecasted to gain 7 seats.
