The 1. FC Magdeburg secured a 1-1 draw against SV Darmstadt 98 in their 2. Bundesliga match on Friday evening. In Magdeburg the first half ended goalless, with the home side having the better chances yet failing to convert them. In the second half the visitors gained the lead when a cross from Baris Atik forced defender Fabian Nürnberger into a desperate situation, and he inadvertently headed the ball into his own net in the 63rd minute. Only a few minutes later Darmstadt leveled: a pass from Merveille Papela allowed Nürnberger to launch a long-range shot, scoring in the 67th minute. In the closing minutes both teams pressed for a winner, but no further goals were scored.
In the concurrent match at the Fürther Sportpark, Branimir Hrgota gave Greuther Fürth the lead just before half‑time. A defensive lapse by the visitors allowed Hrgota to finish from a distance, putting the score at 1-0 in the 42nd minute. SV Elversberg had a substantial opportunity to equalise in the second half, but Lukas Petkov missed a penalty. In stoppage time Lukas Reich added a second goal, capping the game at 2-0 for Fürth.
The victory earns Fürth valuable points in its fight to stay in the league, whereas Elversberg missed a chance to climb the table. Magdeburg ends its losing streak with a point, while Darmstadt loses another opportunity in its promotion quest.
