Macron Urges Stronger Europe at Munich Security Conference

At the Munich Security Conference, French President Emmanuel Macron echoed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s call for a stronger Europe. “A stronger Europe would be a better friend to its allies” Macron said on Friday evening, stressing that Europe is already strong by nature and can become even stronger. “The stronger we are, the better we can serve our partners-especially the United States” he added, but warned that Europe needs a much more positive outlook.

Macron also addressed the situation in Ukraine, condemning defeatist remarks. He warned that it is Russia, weakened by the war, that is now “completely dependent on China” and faces a “military failure”. The president underscored that a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia cannot be reached without European involvement. “We will be part of the solution, and we should be part of the solution” he stated.
