There are expected to be heavy flight cancellations for Lufthansa on Thursday. On Tuesday the pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) announced a full‑day strike from 00:01 to 23:59. This strike will involve pilots for both the main Lufthansa brand and its cargo subsidiary, Lufthansa Cargo. The dispute centers on pension benefits: the union demands higher employer contributions to the pilots’ occupational pensions, while the company rejects the request, citing the high costs involved.
Cabin crew will also walk out on Thursday. The flight attendants’ union Ufo has said that all departures from Frankfurt and Munich airports will be halted between 00:01 and 23:59. The union says the strike is driven by the airline’s refusal to address requests for better working conditions in the cabin and its desire to cut existing protection rules.
