Carsten Linnemann, the CDU’s Secretary‑General, rejected a proposed fuel‑price cap and called for tighter oversight. He told RTL and ntv that market power must be checked, noting that the big companies didn’t just purchase gasoline and diesel yesterday-these contracts had been in place for weeks, even months. Linnemann warned against announcing daily policy changes, as this would only push prices higher. He stressed that the competition authority should act immediately, saying the issue is not about a social market economy but about state intervention.
