Lindholz Demands Ban On Signal For German Politicians Moves To European Messenger Wire

Following a suspected cyberattack by Russian hackers on the communication of high-ranking politicians, Bundestag Vice President Andrea Lindholz (CSU) has urged both the federal government and the Bundestag to cease using the US provider Signal. Lindholz, speaking to the “Bild” newspaper (Monday edition), stated that members of parliament and administrative bodies should transition entirely to the European messenger service Wire. She explained that Wire does not expose phone numbers or visible email addresses, and its security level is “significantly higher”. Lindholz also called for a de facto ban on Signal. “We should consider a ban on Signal for the service devices of members of parliament and Bundestag employees” she said. According to her, Wire offers protection not only to the users but also to their contacts. The Bundestag makes the service available for official purposes, and the CSU politician told “Bild” that “everyone must actually use it now”.
