Bayer Leverkusen secured a spot in the Champions League round of 16 with a 0‑0 draw against Olympiacos Piraeus, successfully defending the 2‑0 advantage they earned in the first leg.
The match was held at the BayArena, where the opening minutes were lively. The hosts were constantly presented with chances: Patrik Schick almost scored from a header, Jonas Hofmann’s close‑range shot was saved by goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, and a quick flick by Schick after a slick pass from Alejandro Grimaldo failed to find the back of the net in the sixth minute.
Olympiacos tried to counter with early pressing, but their attempts were sporadic. A long‑range shot by Chiquinho and a try from Gelson Martins did little to unsettle Leverkusen’s solid defence. In the final third, the visitors remained too passive to pose a serious threat to the stable back line.
As the game progressed, Leverkusen focused on controlling the tempo and avoiding risk. Clear chances remained rare for both sides. The best opportunity of the second half came from Grimaldo in the 62nd minute, when he fired from a tight angle and hit the crossbar.
In the closing minutes, Leverkusen maintained the status quo: a header by Robert Andrich from a corner narrowly missed the goal, and on the other side Andre Luiz missed far from the target. In added time Lorenzo Pirola received a yellow card for a foul, but it had no impact on the outcome.
With a 2‑0 aggregate win, Bayer Leverkusen moves on to the next round, while Olympiacos Piraeus is eliminated from the competition.
