The Leipzig Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered searches on the private and business premises of Saxon AfD state‑legislator Jörg Dornau on Wednesday morning. The Customs Investigation Office in Dresden carried out the operations to secure potential evidence, the authorities said.
The investigations target alleged violations of the Foreign Trade Act. Prosecutors accuse Dornau of misdeclaring a delivery in August 2022, listing Kazakhstan as the destination for a telescope loader in his customs paperwork. The cargo, however, was actually shipped to Belarus, thereby circumventing an export ban.
Earlier that day, the Saxon State Parliament had voted in its plenary session to lift Dornau’s parliamentary immunity. No searches took place on Parliament buildings or in faction offices. No further details about the ongoing investigation have been released.
